All right. I was having a pretty good morning. Slept late. Made a tasty sammich for breakfast. Feelin' good about yesterday's final, and today's should be was a breeze. Then, Em posted:

LJ is about to do something really fucking stupid: They're about to institute a code change that requires accounts to choose either "male" or "female" and strip out the "Unspecified" option.

>__<

Since then, the Russians have backpedaled like woah, trying to say that they had NEVER intended for that code to be used or seen. Uh-huh. Sure. But let's say that's true -- LJ is one of the exceptions in this. From facebook to university registration, this problem slaps us in the face all the time. FORTUNATELY, I'm in too good a mood right now to ruin it by giving the full rant. I shall simply waggle a stern finger at LJ and say be careful. We are a loud and bitchy clientele, and we's watchin' you.

In other new: Thank you, Jesus, for making science really easy to learn via uncomfortably snug pants. My finals are over, and they went well. :) Teacher also said that my bug collection was one of the best he had seen and was impressed because of how much I hate nature. Let it be known to all, *I HATE NATURE.* Icky, creepy, crawling things that bite and sting and ooze. *___* Ick. Give me poop any day. I would rather be in a lab with a pile of POOP looking for parasites than outside in green stuff and non-temperature-controlled air with a net wondering where the hell all the concrete went and what the hell was that in the bushes that just made that noise????

To the bit about LJ's clientele, I would point out that DW is a hell of a lot more user-base friendly. And that there are folks in [site community profile] dw_codesharing who would be delighted to give anyone who wants one an invited code to migrate over.

Irritatingly, I already have a free account over there -- but I'm terribly spoiled by my permanent account perks here. I really don't want to pay *again*. Not to mention that everything in the world is on LJ. >.> If DW had permanent accounts, I would be a lot happier.

Well, DW had the seed accounts, but those were to raise capital for the first year. For the long run and the site's fiscal health, it makes a lot more sense for them to have people purchasing accounts. If you like the perm account perks at LJ, the premium paid accounts at DW are equivalent/better.

(she says, having pounced on a seed account during the original sale. eh-heh.)

Aaah, you fib to me. Perm accounts are much better. Because you have to pay monthly for paid accounts as opposed to a one-time fee, then done. I don't want to pay monthly for service. I don't even pay monthly for television.

Well, I mean that the features of a paid account are pretty much equivalent to the features at LJ (save for some of the things I don't recall seeing you use, like phone posts). Obviously you have to pony up for them on a biannual or annual basis.

My brains are so full, trying to remember one more thing and one more payment would make me cry. The university already owns my life, time, brain, and wallet. And if I don't get one of them back soon, we's gonna have to choke a bitch.

Very shortly the CSR is getting dragged out for some sort of holiday group hug luncheon. Sob.

You'll appreciate this!! John said during the staff meeting yesterday that he really likes working here because everyone likes each other and there isn't any in-fighting or bickering. I nearly burst out laughing. And *KEVIN* Mr K-dup Tharp actually did. He looked John squarely in the face with the most priceless expression and said "I think they're just not telling you about it, then." >D It was great.

Scribbles in Action

What they don't understand, Gordon, is that when you push someone too far, when you take away everything that they care about, then there is no more fear... All you have left is billions of dollars with which to make their lives miserable.
- The Will to Act [Batman: The Dark Knight]

Desperation was plain in [Z's] voice as he begged, "Please, tell me how I can sleep with my boss without being transferred or shot!"
- Z Smut [From Eroica With Love]

"Oh no, House. You've started this; you're my boyfriend now. And you're stuck with it for the next two weeks." Crossing his arms across his chest, he turned a sharp glare on House. "But do you think it's possible that you can pretend to care about someone besides yourself for that long?"
- The Gift That Keeps on Giving [House]

"Nah, he'll be fine." It served him right, anyway. Getting dragged off by an amorous giant squid was a sort of cosmic justice for all the times Jack had flirted with every pretty face in the room.
- The Oncoming Storm [Doctor Who]

"It's your fault," he said without thinking. "I'm Commander Riker to your Captain Picard. We make a great team. And if you say that you don't know who they are, I will buy a television and force you to watch TV Land until you're up to speed on cultural common knowledge."
- Good Times Bad Times [NCIS]
