Once more unto the breach...
May 28th, 2009 08:13 amI don't live in California, and I don't see anywhere on the site where it says you have to in order to participate, so...
Prop 8 is a dangerous precedent of the removal of civil rights based on a margin of people not wanting a minority to have the same basic rights they do for religious reasons. There are so many wrong things in that statement that I don't even care to think about it -- but we need to.
There aren't many people on my flist, mostly because I only have my nearest and dearest friends on here, mixed with a few new cool people. Even if you don't live in California, even if you are married, don't plan on getting married ever, or think that civil unions are cool ... go sign this petition if you want to send a message to our courts that REMOVING civil liberties is BAD, even if 51% of the people think it's a good thing. And post it around your flists, too. Social Networking on the Internet is an awesome, awesome thing.
We've got a year to get people mad as hell about this so that next election year, we can tell people who think "upholding the Democratic process" at the expense of people's rights to STFU.

(No, you don't have to donate anything. Just sign the petition to show that people think this was a majorly bad decision. Spread the word!)
